For the last few months, I have taken a break from the EKTA Series as I have had a lot of projects to work on and it was hard to focus on my personal series.
But rest assured that I haven’t given it up and it will be back shortly.
By the way, I am still looking for models to collaborate, so if you’re interested, give me a shout.
In the mean time, here is Nina for you:

You might remember her from the Ekta Series shoot she did with me as well a while ago.

This gentleman is one of the many clients of Martyshuk housing.
During one of my many trips to Edmonton, I got to collaborate with the amazing people of Martyshuk Housing.
“Amazing” is actually quite the understatement when you consider what they do:
Martyshuk Housing is a grassroots company with a social mandate to abolish homelessness. Since 2007, they use highly innovative and flexible approaches to provide quality affordable housing and tailored supports to their clients. Their unique business model has effectively housed hundreds of some of the hardest-to-house homeless individuals in Edmonton.
Martyshuk is known for:
♦ Ensuring safe, secure, and clean housing throughout Edmonton.
♦ Responding quickly to house people within hours and days of receiving a referral.
♦ Approaching all clients on and case-by-case basis.
♦ Working without judgment.
♦ Treating people as equals and with unparalleled respect.
♦ Giving people a chance when other programs haven’t.
♦ Having a unique model that is producing results.
…
Amongst the numerous clients I’ve had lately, Martyshuk is by far one of the most humbling for me. It’s amazing to see people who genuinely care about other human beings, and doing everything in their power to get them out of the streets. Specially when you know how cold Alberta gets in the winter. Nobody should sleep outside by -35°c.

For those of you who still wonder why you sometimes have to “show off” with a big lens, here is why…
Last night, I was asked to cover Rick Hansen’s “Celebration 25th!”.
“Celebration 25th!” is the conclusion to the 25th Anniversary of Rick Hansen’s “Man In Motion World Tour!”.
If you don’t know who Rick Hansen is, check him out. I won’t go in details about how amazing he is (you should discover that by yourself while checking out his foundation), but as my friend Bob said last night: “thank God I’m not a crier because this is very inspiring and overwhelming”.
Anyway, when I received my media kit, the event’s organization sent me a map of the venue that basically showed us that the photographers were standing at the opposite side of the arena during the show…
And it is a big arena, so we were told to come prepared. Meaning: “bring the longest lens you can find.”
I only had a 70-200mm handy so I improvised and grabbed the 2x extender that basically got me at 400mm.
You loose 2 stops in the process (you have to shoot at f/5.6 instead of f/2.8) but I was hoping that they would blast enough lights on the artists for me to shoot around 1/100s even at f/5.6.
And they sure did.
This is a photo of Johnny Reid, left is what could have happened if I wasn’t prepared and right is the kind of photos I got.
More to come very soon.
I have a shoot tonight and I’ve been asked to bring a long lens…
Here is what I’m taking with me.
I have 400mm (70-200mm + x2 extender) attached to my camera, that should do the trick. Those who know me, are well aware that this blog is not called “a life at 50mm” for nothing. So that should be a nice change for me.
I also made sure to add a monopod to my kit, as I don’t want to hold that thing all night.
I’m not telling you what (or who) I am shooting yet, but you should see some photos here in the next few days.
Before sharing my latest video with you all, here is one I shot a few weeks ago.
I haven’t communicated much about it yet and it is already up to 12.000 views on Vimeo, so let’s bring it to 20.000 shall we?
Here is Tita from Cupcake du jour and her version of “Single Ladies”.
And remember, if you’re around Vancouver and you want to be part of the series, give me a shout.
Enjoy.
The video is actually ready, but before I put it out there, I wanted to share another photo with you all.

Will you find the heart?
