Last year, Gail Suderman, music director of the incredibly talented Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir, asked me if I would do a promo video for the choir. To which I immediately responded: “Yes!”
I am always looking for fun and challenging projects and this one was both.
The fun part is pretty obvious, if you are into music and enjoy facing 80 people singing gospel. (one of the most powerful things I’ve ever witnessed by the way…)
And the challenging part, well, you know, following the choir around during rehearsal, concerts, and doing interviews… with only one camera.
I often say that I am always running around with my camera when I shoot, and this project was no exception. Most of the songs in this video were done at least twice (which makes my job relatively easy), but some of them I only had one shot to catch.
That’s when you have to be quick on your feet, and run like the wind to the other side of the church, hoping to catch the chorus again with a different angle.
Try and do that with a 70-200mm hand held, while crawling, not to disturb the crowd too much and you have your workout for the week.
It all worked out quite well in the end and I am pretty proud of this video.
What do you guys think?
